Private Lesson Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer trial lessons?
Yes. Paid trial lessons are available if you’d like to meet an instructor and try a lesson before enrolling in recurring lessons. A trial is optional; students may also enroll directly in recurring lessons.

What age can students start private lessons?
It depends on the type of lesson, the student, and instructor availability. We offer private lessons for children, teens, and adults and are happy to help you find an appropriate option.

What if my child is a complete beginner?
That’s completely fine! Beginners are welcome. Our instructors work with students at a range of experience levels and can start from where the student is.

How long are private lessons?
We offer weekly 30-, 45-, and 60-minute private lessons.

How much do private lessons cost?
Private lesson tuition is:

  • 30 minutes — $32 per lesson / $128 per month

  • 45 minutes — $45 per lesson / $180 per month

  • 60 minutes — $57 per lesson / $228 per month

What types of private lessons do you offer?
Depending on current instructor availability, we offer private lessons in voice, piano, guitar, ukulele, acting, dance, art, and stagecraft.

How do I choose an instructor?
You can view our current instructors and availability and book directly, or we can help you find a good match. Submit a private lesson inquiry with the student’s age, area of interest, and general availability, and we’ll review the options with you.

Do we have to start with a trial lesson?
No. A paid trial lesson is simply an option if you’d like to meet the instructor before enrolling in recurring lessons.

Can parents sit in on lessons?
Yes. Parents are welcome to sit in on private lessons.

What if we need to miss a lesson?
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice whenever possible. With appropriate notice, you may be eligible for a make-up credit under our private lesson make-up policy.

How do we pay for lessons?
Recurring private lessons are billed monthly through our registration system. Eligible families may also use Step Up For Students/SUFS funds for qualifying lessons.

What if the instructor or schedule isn’t the right fit?
Please contact us. We may be able to help you find a different instructor or lesson time that works better.

What if we decide to stop lessons?
Private lessons require 30 days’ notice to cancel recurring enrollment.

Still not sure what to choose?
We’re happy to help. Use our Ask About Private Lessons form and tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll review current instructor and scheduling options with you.
