Tonya John serves as Director of Art at Making Light Productions and teaches sewing, costuming, stagecraft, and visual art. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pensacola Christian College and has more than 30 years of experience in sewing, costume design, alterations, pattern work, custom construction, and hands-on production work.
At Making Light, Tonya creates costumes, props, scenic elements, character pieces, and original sewing projects for fully produced plays and musicals. Her work supports both student learning and the visual design of productions across Making Light’s musical theatre, acting, and technical theatre programs.
With experience teaching both neurotypical and neurodivergent children, Tonya brings patience, technical knowledge, and individualized instruction to her classes and private lessons. She helps students build practical skills in sewing, art, costuming, and stagecraft while developing creativity, independence, and an understanding of how visual and technical elements contribute to a production.
